Mount Stuart Trust. Isle of Bute

For the past 6 years we have carried out arboricultural services for the trust that owns & manages the extensive grounds of Mount Stuart Grounds and much of the Isle of Bute. As the trust do not employ qualified climbers, we carry out all tree work at height for the estate.

This work includes the removal of trees in confined spaces, inspection & maintenance of trees lining pathways & roads and the sectional dismantling of dangerous trees. More recently we completed the dead wooding and removal of dead trees within the estates large Pinetum (planted 1970)

Faslane Naval Base

We have been sub-contracted by WH Malcolm Construction Services to carry out work at Faslane Naval Base on more than one occasion. The work carried out within the base was very demanding as more often than not the trees we were felling were very large and found in confined spaces, surrounded by working office space, living accommodation & roads. This meant we had to adhere to strict working practices and time scales to ensure minimal disturbance to other site user activities.

The site clearance aspect of the contract required significant planning & organisation. Prior to works proceeding, stacking areas for felled timber had to be agreed andd marked out so as not to interfere with services & other base traffic. We also had to investigate any possible markets for salable timber.

In addition, due to the nature of the site we had to be particularly stringent regarding health & saftey. There were also a large number of security issues on site and as such regular security checks were carried out & escorts had to be in place when moving around the base.

South Lanarkshire Council

We first started contracting to South Lanarkshire Council 7 years ago, when we were approached to assist in a large woodland operation being undertaken by their in house arboriculturalists as they did not have the necessary machinery for extracting and hanlding the felled timber.

Since the successful completion of this first project we are regularly engaged by SLC to carry out works ranging from machine hire, to assisting their own in house staff. We have also been asked to carry out entire projects for the council.

We also carry out work for East Renfrewshire Council on a regular basis and have built up a good working relationship with both local government authorities.
